Reverence for the Body Temple

The shock is visceral and profound; the moment we leave the safety and sanctuary of our mother’s sacred womb, the moment we are thrust into this alien place that is to become our home.

Yet without conscious effort on our part,  our miraculous bodies know precisely what to do. Cells divide, multiply, connect, to form a divine symphony of growth and transformation.

Our senses sharpen, our limbs lengthen, our immune system matures. Every organ knows its role, every cell knows its place. Some 50 trillion wonderous cells coexisting, cooperating and collaborating effortlessly inside a perfectly engineered form.

And as we mature, our body temples carry us through our lives, on adventures far and wide. Our legs walk untold miles, our hearts beat a continual rhythm of life, our lungs take in abundant life-giving breath.

Such is the gift of the sacred technology of our bodies that we often take them for granted, to not notice their infinitely wonderous capabilities. The simplest of acts can bring the deepest of joys. Our hands allow us to caress, our lips to kiss, our voices to soothe.

When we give our bodies the care and optimal conditions they need, our bodies take care of the rest, to heal, repair and regenerate.

Oh, dearest body, let me remember to appreciate you and care for you. Forgive my forgetting of your miraculous nature, forgive my occasional neglect, forgive my sometimes taking you for granted.

In you, my soul gets to delight in the wonders of life, to know the highest ecstasies, as well as learn to transcend the greatest challenges.

Thank you for your strength, thank you for your resilience, thank you for your innate wisdom.

And thank you, for being the home through which I get to traverse this expansive world and explore this mystical, magical life.
