I want to share something I heard American author and teacher Gregg Braden talk about: his Equation for Love.
Now, I love maths, and I love talking about love, of all kinds, not just romantic love, so what a brilliant combination!
His equation is this:
| Our current capacity for love | = | Our original capacity that we were born with | minus | All the times in our lives where we felt hurt by love |
He makes a point of saying, though, that love itself cannot hurt us, and it’s actually the absence of love that we perceive ourselves to have been hurt by.
So during the course of our lives, when others were either intentionally or unintentionally unloving towards us, that would have had the effect of slowly, over time, diminishing our capacity for love from what we were born with, leaving us with what we currently have.
Therefore, if we are able to do the inner work to heal ourselves, heal our emotional wounds from the times when we felt hurt by love (or rather the lack thereof), we can get back to our original capacity for love.
In doing so, we recalibrate our hearts and reframe our minds and our thinking, to allow our being to be able to give and receive substantially more love.
And how wonderful this is, that we get to do this!
Sending you much love, from my heart to yours x
