Longing

Quantum science posits that time and space are an illusion,
Yet when separated by land and seas, that illusion seems all too real.

When the taste of another soul still lingers on the tongue,
Whilst enrobed by the knowing that it’s a taste never to be experienced again,
A stirring in the inner reaches of the heart space begins to play a little tune.
A little tinkling of the ivories begins to compose feelings indecipherable,
Impossible for the logical mind to rationalise,
Harmonies of melancholy blend with chords of yearning,
Creating a symphony simultaneously both unbearable and joyful.

Flickers of a face, a smile, a gaze, a laugh, unexpectedly intrude upon the psyche,
Causing a need for pause, to pay homage to the memory, to remind the heart of times past.

Longing, sweet longing, its bittersweet nature, pulls in the attention with a force difficult to resist.
As longing can only follow magical connections, to quash longing is to reject the joy brought by its cause.

Alas, ‘tis the beauty of the human heart to be privileged with the gift of feeling emotions,
Emotions to be embraced, to be rejoiced and to be loved,
Without fear of pain and with absence of sorrow.
So open and expand your heart wide, to let in love, to let in longing, to let in life.
